Social Skills Groups in the Sunshine Coast

Small group sessions to build confidence, conversation and connection, including our free weekly Coffee, Games and Community group.

A group catching up over coffee

Practice, with people who get it

Social skills are learned by using them, and using them is the hard part when every conversation feels like a test. A small group of people in the same position, with a worker keeping things easy, is the safest place to practise.

Our free weekly Coffee, Games and Community group is the starting point for most people: regular, low pressure, and the same faces each week. From there some people want something more structured, a small group with a focus, run by our workers.

None of it is a course. It is regular time with people, in a setting where the pressure is off.

What groups can focus on

Led by who is in the room. These come up most.

Conversation

Starting one, keeping one going, and ending one without it being weird.

Coffee, games and community

Our free weekly group. The easiest possible start.

Doing things together

Bowling, cooking, the beach. Activities with company, where the activity carries the conversation.

Handling conflict

What to do when someone is rude, or when you have upset someone without meaning to.

Young people

A youth group is coming. Register your interest on its page.

One to one first

If a group is too much right now, we start one to one and build towards it.

Where we work

Across the Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay

The same team and the same approach wherever you are. If you are just outside these areas, ask us. We will say yes or no.

Low pressure

Nobody is made to talk.

You can come to the group and say nothing for a month. Being there counts.

  • Groups small enough that everyone is known
  • The same worker running it each week
  • A quiet corner and a way to step out
  • Group rates, so it costs your plan less

Questions about social groups

Is the Coffee and Games group really free?

Yes. You pay for your own coffee. There is no support charge for attending the community group. Structured small groups run by our workers are charged at NDIS group rates.

I find groups overwhelming. Is there another way?

Yes. Start one to one with a worker, and move towards a group only if and when you want to. Some people never do, and that is fine.

Who comes to the group?

A mix of participants, family members and community. Ages and abilities vary. It is deliberately not a clinical setting.

Can I just turn up?

For Coffee and Games, yes. Check the page for the current day and place. For a small group, talk to us first so we can match you to one that fits.

Start with a coffee.

It is free, it is weekly, and no one will make you talk.
